Level Two Frequently Asked Questions
When will Level Two be ready?
Master ASL! Level Two is being worked on full-time by the author, who is very aware that ASL students and teachers are desperately waiting for the second level. Developing a textbook that meets national and all state standards is a huge project that takes time. The range of topics, their depth, and considerable amount of DVD content appearing in Level Two necessitate a longer development period.
Because of the complexity of the project, a firm release date will not be given until the textbook is scheduled to be printed. Before that time, sample units will be available on masterasl.com. To be among the first to know when the samples are available, follow Master ASL! on Facebook.
What can you say about Level Two?
Level Two focuses on expanding student use of ASL in a real-life, practical manner. Following the principles of task-based learning, students are exposed to a wide variety of topics and tasks that challenge them to develop stronger communication skills and a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.
Will sample units be made available?
Sample units and DVD content from Level Two will be made available for use by teachers and students before the textbook is released. At least the first two units will be offered for download once all illustrations and graphics are completed.
How can I be notified about Level Two?
There are several ways to keep informed about Level Two. Facebook users will be among the first to learn about updates. Following MasterASL on Twitter will also help you stay aware of announcements on Level Two and other ASL-teaching related discussions.
What should Level I users do in the meantime until Level Two is released?
In the meantime, the author suggests using the Elephant Game activities as the basis of instruction, along with other intermediate-level ASL curricula already available, such as Signing Naturally 2 and Learning American Sign Language: Intermediate. The Elephant Game features 22 different in-depth activities appropriate for intermediate ASL students, including classifiers, non-manual signals, numbers, and many other topics that appear in Master ASL! Level Two.
